The National Map - Demo Examples

The following examples highlight various uses of The National Map functions and services.

    These links open a new page demonstrating how The National Map services can be rendered using the REST service with the Google Maps API.

    These links open a new page demonstrating how The National Map services can be rendered using the REST service with the Bing Maps API (for tiled services only).
  3. TNM Overlay in Google Earth
    These links open a .kmz file to demonstrate how The National Map services can be rendered in the Google Earth application, which would need to be previously downloaded and installed by the user.

Services

  1. Services list
    This page shows all services used in The National Map viewer, with the number of layers in each. These available raster and vector services support the eight primary data themes of Elevation, Geographic Names, Governmental Unit Boundaries, Hydrography, Orthoimagery, Land Cover, Structures, and Transportation.
  2. Service legends
    This page displays the legend icons for selected ESRI ArcGIS map services, including services used by The National Map viewer, shown above.
  3. Single click elevation query
    This function allows a user to click the map to see the elevation at a point. It uses the EROS elevation web service query located at http://cumulus.cr.usgs.gov/app_services.php and shows elevation in feet and meters, plus the data source.
  4. Multi-click elevation query
    This function allows a user to click the map to set elevation survey makers, and then click each marker to then see the elevation in feet and meters plus the data source. This page uses the EROS elevation web service query located at http://cumulus.cr.usgs.gov/app_services.php.
  5. Elevation profile
    This page demonstrates how a user can have an elevation profile drawn by drawing a path on the map. Sample intervals can be set in feet, meters, or degrees.
