TopoView (Beta)

TopoView enables historical exploration into one of the USGS's most important and useful products, the topographic map. In 1879, the USGS began to map the Nation's topography. This mapping was done at different levels of detail, in order to support various land use and other purposes. As the years passed, the USGS produced new map versions of each area. The most current map of each area, now called ‘US Topo’, is available from The National Map through the USGS Store. TopoView shows the many and varied older maps of each area, and so is especially useful for historical purposes—for example, the names of some natural and cultural features have changed over time, and the "old" names can be found on these historical topographic maps. This interface was created by the USGS National Geologic Map Database project (NGMDB) in collaboration with the National Geospatial Program (NGP).

Bulk Point Query (Beta)

The Bulk Point Query allows users to upload a comma-separated (CSV) file containing: latitude and longitude points and returns the corresponding elevation values. Values can be displayed on the screen and downloaded as a CSV or Excel formatted file that contains the original points and elevation values expressed in meters and feet. The program simply makes repeated calls to the NED Point Query Service to allow users a bulk capability without having to write scripts themselves. The input is currently limited to no more than 500 points.
